A friend of mine has a diary site I just thought Id give you a quote of personal interest and his link for general interest. i havent actually visited the site so feel free to comment about it.

http://www.livejournal.com/users/rstythgphr/

I pulled up a chair next to my friend Thorsten, awaiting the trivia questions. You beauty, Star Wars trivia, 20 out of 20 blindfolded. I win drinks? Get me a pint of guinness. There went an afternoon spent quaffing guinness and discussing cake's latest album, trent reznoirs production ability, marilyn mansons impact on western civilisation and wether or not pop will truly eat itself.

I was going to blog about other things but I will attempt to answer Snorkys questions in primary school terms so as not to get drawn into the multicplicity of philosophical religous beliefs. Its not so much that I want to enlighten Snorky but as he says its good to defines ones 'moral set' as it were.

- What is God?
God is many things to many people. It is said that God is love and it is difficult for any denomination or pagan to more accurately define God whether you believe or not. Historically we came from a civilization in the western world with many Gods that refelected the many forces of human nature until the legend of Abraham redifined the belief system into having one god. This prinicipal has been adopted by the Muslim, Chritian and Jewish communities the world over and reflects idealism over hedonism. I want to elaborate but the God is love idea is far more detailed and precise then any convoluted idea that I can put forward.

- Why is their 'Good' and 'Evil'?
This can be interpreted in many ways. Why does each exist in the prescence of the other. Or what does it acheive.

Christianity has a variety of responses from which to draw, but of course, this may be interpreted as being no answer at all. Primarily it is believed that we are tested and tempted and in almost anybodys definition of life it is negotiating these tests or this 'ultimate test' as Abraham did with his son (ask your christian buddies for the story) that define our lives. This is a great one - but I said i'd keep it simple.

Also it is said that without one there can't be the other. People speak often about happiness and fullfillment but if often does not come without sacrifice or without overcoming external or internal evils. We live in a sedative society but for the athlete who trains day and night for 15 years of their 25 year existance for that nanosecond of ultimate acheivement can only truely know how good 'good' can get. But without the pain threshold the injuries the barriers and the sacrifice, it would mean nothing. Without good there can't be evil and without evil there can't be good. They are a juxtuposition of the human experience and in religion they are also founded in omnipotence.

- Do we have free will?
This one I will answer personanlly as I can only say that this is a question of fate and not religion. It is true that in most religions, eastern religions included, have the beleif that we are often punished for our actions and in a complicated way we can prove that we are. There will always be doubtful aspersions cast on both sides of this argument perhaps more matter of factly then most of these other questions but if I can put it in New York speak 'what goes around comes around' and if we put something on our conscience then we must carry our conscience for the term of our lives. We have free will yes but perhaps there is God in our consequence?! What do you think people?

- What is hell?
See good versus evil (im getting too long winded)

- From a christian perspective, what happens to people of other faiths or none?
Nothing different to those within the faith. The message is too often about religion and not the message that religion brings.

- Are we judge buy our actions regardless of faith?
See above

- Can a good person go to hell for not believing in God?
See above and follow the prompts

- Is God arrogant? (my personal favourite)
This one made me laugh. I'd love snorky to elaborate but Im sure it must be derived from the door knocker type. The type that says you must be part of 'our' religion and give money to 'our' church or you will burn in hell. I'd say go to question one but I will repeat myself. God is love.

God is seen to metaphorically and literally wash the feet of others. Arrogance (a personal trait of mine i'm often told. I would like to understand arrogance more and define it within the contexts of my personality) is simply the opposite of Godliness. One of my favourite films 'The Devils Advocate' based on an outstanding book elquently describes this very topic. In the film, the devil himself played by the only man who could, Al Pacino, says in the film 'Vanity, its my favourite sin' and this is the premise of the entire film. Like the film our life is ruled by temptations and our selfishness. Why is this wrong some will say? Perhaps God is an idealist? But as a self confessed pessimist I like to hold onto those ideals and receive something it seems only God through his creations can give us - love and hope.

My best friend is staying with me this week. He is christian, I am not. Other than that, were are very similar. We talk about a lot of things and generally we end up discussing religion at some point. Last night we had a good debate and i've been trying to remember some of the finer points.

I'll briefly summarise:
- What is God?
- Why is their "Good" and "Evil"?
- Do we have "Free will"?
- What is "Hell" and why does it exist?
- Who benefits from the existence of Hell?
- From a christian perspective, what happens to people of other faiths or none?
- Are we judged by our actions regardless of faith?
- Can a good person go to hell for not believing in God?
- Is God arrogant? (my personal favourite)

My goal is not to have people question their beliefs but rather help me understand the dynamic of their beliefs and why they have faith in them. I find religion facinating and the reason wars are started because of it is simple.... Humans. You just can't mix them with anything without tainting it. However, some argue, it's our chaotic tendencies that invoke innovation in us.

I'll try to remember some of our dialogue and post it here, but in the meantime see below.

I know you've had days like this like one. I went shopping and one of the shopkeepers was just beautiful. Not beautiful by association. Sport magazine beautiful. She was healthy and shapely with not an inch of her silhouette mispent. Her eyes blue, her hair, long, blonde, falling over her smooth golden shoulders. She was a stereotypial porn star except she was selling summer knits and casuals rather then tits and ass.

(I say tits and ass becasue I was going to say fantasy and we know that retail is fantasy. She is hired to make oveweight fashion victims buy into this illusion. If they were to buy these clothes we know they wont look anything more then overweight fashion victims in new clothes. But they'll buy them anyway)

She bent down and her the full swell of her cleavage was exposed to the passers by. It just got better and better.

In the next store a model. In fact too beautiful to be a model. A model gives me images of girls who are coat hangers for clothes. I have always said that models make clothes look good. Gorgeous peoples clothes make them look good. Ask yourself what stands out - the clothes or them? And how? This will give you a ready reckoner for perving that you can use for the rest of your life to great effect.

Her aesthetic beauty transended words. Again blonde haired blue eyed a stereotype of looks that can never be found in the expensive talent agency port folio's the world over. Unblemished carmel skin, small intricate muscles that seemed to define the essence of feminity. Her slight slinky body moved with cat walk cool and it amazed me every breathe of the way.

Somedays you are treated to so much beauty that you are amazed by the possibilities of the human forms in ways you never found imaginable.

To find these breathtaking feats of nature can provide colour and texture and landscape to our arid expansive lives. To find this incomprehensible beauty in the form of personality and the human heart, is to find the find very meaning of our lives.

I'm seriously going through the most boring part of my life right now!

I think i'm having a quarter-life crisis...!

This guy is having the same problems as me, A quarter-life crisis?, I can't say that the answers have enlightened me.

I hate posting too much info in a blog but I find this is neccessary as it helps me realise that i'm unique.... just like everyone else...!

They call it the "Quarter-life Crisis." It is when you stop going along with the crowd and start realizing that there are a lot of things about yourself that you didn`t know and may not like. You start feeling insecure and wonder where you will be in a year or two, but then get hot and scared because you barely know where you are now.

You start realizing that people are selfish and that, maybe, those friends that you thought you were so close to you aren`t exactly the greatest people you have ever met and the people you have lost touch with are some of the most important ones. What you do not realize is that they are realizing that too and are not really cold or catty or mean or insincere, but that they are as confused as you are. You look at your job. It is not even close to what you thought you would be doing or maybe you are looking for one and realizing that you are going to have to start at the bottom and are scared.

You miss the comforts of college, of groups, of socializing with the same people on a constant basis. But then you realize that maybe they weren`t so great after all. You are beginning to understand yourself and what you want and do not want. Your opinions have gotten stronger. You see what others are doing and find yourself judging a bit more than usual because suddenly you realize that you have certain boundaries in your life and add things to your list of what is acceptable and what is not. You are insecure and then secure. You laugh and cry with the greatest force of your life. You feel alone and scared and confused. Suddenly change is the enemy and you cry and cling on to the past with dear life but soon realize that the past is drifting further and further away and there is nothing to do but stay where you are or move forward. The stupid ones plateau, the smart ones rise.

You get your heartbroken and wonder how someone you loved could do such damage to you or you lay in bed and wonder why you can`t meet anyone decent enough to get to know better. You love someone but maybe love someone else too and cannot figure out why you are doing this because you are not a bad person. One night stands and random hook ups start to look cheap and getting wasted and acting like an idiot starts to look pathetic. You go through the same emotions and questions over and over and talk with your friends about the same topics because you cannot seem to make a decision. You wonder what in the hell is wrong with you. You worry about loans and money and the future and making a life for yourself and while winning the race would be great, right now you`d just like to be a contender! We are making a lot of mistakes, but helping one another learn from them. We will piss one another off, and laugh at the end of a conversation that started with angry words. We are a group that talks behind the backs of the same people we call to meet up with on a Friday night, but we are sorry about it and we know that we were just being insecure like they have been. What you may not realize is that everyone reading this relates to it and we are all in this together. We are in our best of times and our worst of times, trying as hard as we can to figure this whole thing out. We are friends, and in 10 years we will be friends who have figured out where we fit in in this world.

If people expect sincerity from others, they should be sincere, otherwise do not expect anything at all. Having heart to heart conversations is being real. Wish you and myself all the best of luck. Put unhappiness aside and go with the flow.

I can't, for the life of me, find out who originally wrote this but if anybody knows please tell me. So many people have used this same text (see: Google) and I feel that someone should be credited for it. I first found it here.

Just watched Spirited Away. Shit Studio Ghibli are unreal. I guess I just wanted to announce that I love their work. Keep it coming!

I also forgot to mention that i'd watched Donnie Darko not long ago and thought it was excellent. Great website too. I could go on about heeps of shit regarding the movie but why say something if it's already been said (well I quite often break that rule anyway.. hehe).

Here are some reviews: Yay | Nay

Places to go AFTER you have seen the movie: Forum | Useful Material

And for those who hated the movie my favorite quote from the above forum:
...do you seriously believe that the director would make this film: every detail of which has symbolic/metaphoric significance, not to mention within confounding contexts-and then proceed to have the meaning of his film flashed up in one shot of the sign above the movie theatre?!!! Do you realise how absurd your assertion is?!

Ok, everything is alright.

The fires are now under control (of sorts) and the fire fighters have done a brilliant job. I still find it amazing how some of the people that have been effected by this come out stronger. In some cases you'd expect to find a defeated people but from what i've seen they are truely greatful that they still have their lives (and their family). If anything it has helped strengthen my belief that most people just want to live and let live and that it is only our environment that effects how we react to things and change how we live our lives.

Sexism, racisim, religion. All of these things take our focus off being that person that everyone wants to be. I want to be a good person, I want to love and be loved but certain things bring out the worst in me. I find it hard, for example, to argue with a racist because I get so heated by the subject matter that I forget all my facts and will probably resort to pulling their hair and saying "listen to me, you're a fuck head"... SLAP... "can you hear me"... SLAP SLAP... "believe me now, because i'm right and you are wrong!"... SLAP! Well, maybe not exactly that, but that would be what i'd want to do.

My point is that if I was like that then I would alienate them even more and that would help them stregthen their beliefs. So what i'll end up happening is i'd start shaking, my right eye would start to twitch and I would say "yessss.. wellll... that'ss niiice...." then slowly turn and walk away.

Another thing that concerns me is Sexism. I realise that it happens more for women than for men, but it hurts me to think that some women will target me as "the typical male" when they don't even know me. Some may think that I objectify women by talking about them like I do sometimes and even with my i-candy section, but I only ever objectify women that want to be objectified. This is how they make their living and I think it is just as respectable as any other career. As such, I can't really comment on these women other than how they look because that is all they present to the world.

So what does all this mean? It means that I judge a person by what they present to me. If you are in a bikini on a beach in some sexy pose then i'd judge you as hot. If you also write poetry in your spare time then you'd be hot and expressive. Personally i'm attracked to women that are smarter than me (which isn't hard). I value intelligence and patience over most things. I also repect someone who able to view most situations from all perspectives. These are traits most intelligent people possess, man or woman.

I wish you could buy intelligence. I'd buy some more for myself and spend the rest on George Bush.
