A Groupies Post Script
I saw a documentary today based on the research of a scientist who was focusing on human instincts. Interstingly he was able to determine by genetics which girl he was chemically compatible to and hence would be attracted to. A number of women each wore a t shirt for 24 hours then the t shirts were stored . By simply smelling each shirt after having been worn, oblivious to the labels, he was able to line up the shirts in almost perfect order to which were pre determined as the most compatible. Proving what we already know about our chemical attraction to some people over others.
That doesnt make much sense but Im little incoherent at the moment. Its the next part which I felt was worth recording based on yesterdays blurb.
In the following experiement (highly subjective as it may be) this same scientist wore his normal clothes to a Rodeo Drive cafe. A tableof women were asked to assemble on the front table and rate the men in attractiveness from 1 to 10 as they took a table.
The scientist got a beat up brown, sedan with primer on the panels and parked out the front of the cafe. He got out of the car wearing his usual ensemble consisting of baggy pants, white sneakers and a green cable knit pull over. His bushy beard and bushy unstyled curly hair with glasses looked largely unkept and contributed to his styless somewhat unfashionable appearance.
In the second instance the process involved the same scientist receiving a complete facial and makeover at a top Beverley Hills beautician. Following that he received a moustache trim and shave. His hair was treated and styled to suit. Then he went to receive a full dress makeover including diamond cufflinks, cartier watch, suit tie shoes and shirt - all the fashionable apex of boutique stores.
He then arrived in a Bentley at the same cafe and the same women rated his entrance. The same man recieved 9 1/2s and 10s the only stipulation seeming to be his availability.
See my previous blog for an explanation. But its interesting isnt it?

Groupies
I saw a few minutes of The Ricki Lake Show today. Interestingly it was about 'groupies gone wild.' It fascinated me that these were all women. And that the men (the husbands) were less significant spouses to women who were obsessive about particular others. They may not have an inkiling of the personalities or the chemistry of these people but are fanatical about them none the less.
Why is it women that are so obsessive? Women have always been like this it seems. Since my childhood I listened to comedy cassettes from the sixties where women would drag their husbands to a concert or a picture show so that they could exercise their romantic idealism of another man. Or rather a falsified image of one. In the pre arranged marraiges of by gone eras this was particularly true as women conspired to win the hearts of the most affluent men available to them.
It is perhaps a masonite like secret that men obsess about "all" women. Of course there is exception, but a man is driven to procreate. He is instinctively attracted to women and then when one is impregnated he naturally dispenses with that desire then moves on to the next. This phenomen helps physcologists explain the sexual behaviour of the male animal who instinctively rolls away after he has orgasmed and is irritated by any further affection. He would naturally seek rest or food and then go on to try to engage the services of another female.
It is the notion that men seek variety that is the key to understanding the male perspective. It is the key to infidelity and the key to his obsession with the female form. It is true to say that the more sexually active a male is that his desire to procreate widens. That is that a virgin male is often particular until he experiences the sensations of sex. Once triggered his hormonal hunting widens. He wants old girls, young girls, fat girls, skinny girls, asian girls, middle eastern girls. medditeranean girls, large breasts, flat chests, blondes, brunettes, rasberry hair. He obsesses about all manor of women and it is the drive to experience them that makes him a lover of women. The porn industry along with an array of more detailed clues to this concept act as supporting evidence.
So why then are women so obsessive over the one man? Why are women so different? Women are quite simply maternal. They are not trying to find a mate, they are trying to find the most powerful, strongest most attractive suitor to provide seed and act as a provider and protector. Naturally a more powerful fitter faster stronger animal can provide more food and be a better provider to her young. So with this maternal nature two things are obvious.
Firstly women manifest the need for affection and comfort. They need a provider and a life partner. A father to their children. Indeed many scholars have written about the replacement of a girls father with another. There is some truth to this but I wont go into it here. So in the case of post coital situations as mentioned earlier, women biologically need to cling onto that male while the male biologically needs to get away. Fortunately for women, society has instilled the monogomous doctorines of family values which nurture and support the existance of women kind, while creating a more impoten,t powerless, subservient male over the decades.
Secondly, women always win the attention of the alpha male, as they appeal to all males as mentioned earlier. Muffled by the politics of society, women often dont realise that they can have any man anytime. They can walk into the classic bar scenario pick one or many men and have their way with them in any number or scenario they so desire. This would be ideal in a male world. But in a female world, the women of our species like so many others are engeeniered to accept only the alpha male. The dominating and more powerful male and it is here that women focus their attentions and become obsessively smitten. Like a lion community or the classic moutain gorilla society, only the most dominant, powerful, aggressive male (or the one that portrays those traits through size and attitude and muscular superiority) wins the female. They may fight the other males physically as in the classic bar scenario where the winner gets the girl. They male also win by being the most dominant of the pack such as the 'boardroom bully' or the 'king of the night club' in our society.
When this male becomes older, more lethargic or is out of shape the women is taken by a younger more powerful male. Just as a lion who happily mates and eats and lazily loafs with his female counterpart, he may be challenged by a younger more virile more powerful male who wards him away and wins the affection of the female.
Similarly in human society, husbands are generally more tired and overwieght and a sloppy parody of their younger selves.
Note -Notice the difference between single males and married males. Married males lose their edge physically, fashionablly, socially, sexually etc. Compare to the single play boy or younger male for example. We know that there is evidence to the contrary also but again I dont have the need to go into that now.
While single, often younger males driven by hormone and sexual ambition are often powerul specimens from a social standpoint.
It is with this point that we see the answer to our original question. While men are clearly obsessed by women in an absolute sense. Women are in turn obsessed by the alpha male. Back to Ricki. The women were obsessed by who? Baseball players, singers and the like. The leaders of the pack, good looking very wealthy very powerful. The alpha males of our society. It is often said that this is where men strive to become the alpha male for this sexual gain and it certainly holds some truth as men are designed to utilize their position or cunning to attract the female of his species.
Post script:
Underneath this veneer I believe that men and women have a capacity to love. I dont know If I feel that I have to be the alpha male in my relationship I just have to know that my partner feels that capcity towards me while I too must honestly feel that capacity towards her. My philosophy is this postcript. Everything abotu self and the interplay of two selves is irrelevent as long they share that one overwhelming feeling. For the people on Ricki, as long as those wives do truly love their husbands then the husbands may still feel somewhat denegrated, but it is irrelevent if they are loved.

Diary of a diary
I finished one of the most compelling novels I have ever read today. It was an amalmagation of social rhetoric and scientific postulation. Its narrative and its style appealed to me inexorably. It seemed force fed fact induction to begin with, but like all good works of art it was intentional.
It showed the shortcomings of humanity through a sequence of unrelated events contrasting varying social behaviours against the fabric of the human condition.
It goes on to prove our disconsolance and how through science and social propriety we are and can only be bound by dimension and shape. When we move through space we are bound by a single abstract notion just as the universe is cohesive with the constructs there in.
Togetherness can save mankind from itself. Seperation leads to unravelling and impending evil. Only with togetherness can we save ourselves from our inevitable and inclining selfishness, hatred and pessimism. We procreate less, we choose life less, we choose less of a life more often. Only through the abstract notions of love (theoretically and biologically) can we gurantee our lives and the future of our species.
The work is far too complex for a simple blog but for its 379 pages of observations and messages its our displacement of metaphysics for the tangibles of our own interaction that holds the underlying key. The fact that mankind has a power that no creature has had before us. The ability to create our future generations and manufacture our evolution. We have the ability to devise so much more then the notions of religion. We have the ability to be gods.
